Daniel Blaeuer, Ph.D. Introduction This paper explores the loose and interdisciplinary academic movement of systems thinking or systems theory as the ideas moved from military research into the hand artist and performer in the counter-cultural movement. The evangelical promoter of systems thinking Gregory Bateson argues systems thinking was a “growing together of a number of ideas which had developed in different places during World War II” that formed an intellectual movement (Bateson, 1972 p. 474).
